Merry Christmas!

What a wonderful season it’s been here at HMC! Thank you for embracing our heart for the season and celebrating with us in song and fellowship. A very special thank you to everyone who dropped off Christmas treats for the staff — what a beautiful (and delicious) way to let us know we’re appreciated!

As things quiet down in the office, we hope that quiet will spill also into your lives. As you gather with friends and family, may you also find times of rest and refreshment as you reflect on the tremendous gift of Jesus’ birth.
May you be richly blessed this season and enter the new year with much hope and peace.

Merry Christmas from the HMC staff!

Sunday, December 30 will be the final day for 2018 offerings. Anything you want receipted for the 2018 year needs to be submitted by then. The church office will be closed on December 31, so late drop-offs cannot be processed until the new year.

A new phone directory is now out, as well as 2019 offering envelopes. You can find both in the foyer. And if any U18 volunteers haven’t yet picked up their thank you gift, please take that from the table in the foyer on your way out today.

Good Enough? #ThingsJesusSaid [Sermon on the Mount]

KEY IDEA:

You aren’t good enough, but Jesus is.

1.) Jesus doesn’t change God’s standards; He satisfies them. (vs 17)

2.) We still need to obey God. (vs 18-19)

3.) Jesus becomes your perfection. (vs 20)

So what??

Will you drop your goodness so you can become His greatness?

Three perspectives – where are you?

Religious? Relativism/Irreligion? Relationship?

Matthew 5:17-20 New International Version (NIV)

The Fulfillment of the Law

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
