749 Matthew 18:19-20
823 John 14:12-13
824 John 15:4-8

Why is it so easy to believe that God CAN do something we ask for, but so difficult to believe that He WILL do what we ask for?

Pg 749 Matthew 18:19-20 NIV — If this promise is true, a husband and wife team, two friends, two children – can tap into immense power. Why then are we so slow to come together to pray?

Pg 752 Matthew 21:21-22 NIV — If this promise is true, how do we get past doubt? And why do we dare so little and ask so small?

Pg 823 John 14:12-13 NIV — What does it mean to “Ask in His Name?” And how far should we take His promises?

Pg 862 Romans 8:26-27 & 34 NIV  — What is the significance of having both Jesus and the Holy Spirit interceding for us?

Pg 809 John 1: 1-5

Why does God DELIGHT IN US?

Prayer is time spent with THE MOST POWERFUL BEING IN EXISTENCE who DELIGHTS IN YOU! Who KNOWS YOU BY NAME! Who KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU, BUT STILL LOVES YOU!

Pg 824 John 15:4-8  —
Apart from me [Jesus] you can do NOTHING! Not a very flattering statement. How do we learn to live IN HIM?

Pg 476 Psalm 139: 7-12  —If you feel like God is distant, read that passage  over and over. Memorize it. If you wish God would keep His distance a bit more, read that passage and surrender to Him.

What changes when we pray for our Pastors?
What changes when we pray for our Ministry Council?
How far can you dare to trust God?

Jesus raised the dead. He healed lepers. He TOUCHED lepers, an absolute taboo of His day. He healed the deaf, the blind, the crippled. And He told us WE CAN DO GREATER THINGS! Are we supposed to believe that? Are we supposed to act on that?

Can we trust Him when we don’t understand?
Can we trust Him, when the hurt is deeper than we ever thought we could endure?

Are you praying for our kids?
Are you praying for their teachers?
What lifts you, fills you, but never leaves you feeling bloated?

Pg 932 – James 4:2-3 —
Why does He want us to ASK when He already knows what we need?
Why does He want us to ASK, when He already knows what we need?

Pastor Dave’s Challenge – 10 people coming to know God through the ministry of HMC this year. Too big or too small a goal?

If we truly believe what Jesus said, why do we ask so small, and dare so little?

Pg 951 Revelation 3:20 ESV — Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and eat with him, and he with me.

Take a Break — Sermon Video

Key Idea:

God says: have a break!

1) God designed having a break as part of creation.

2) God designed having a break as a way to find spiritual refreshment.
Lev 23:3, Ex 20:8-11

Qadash(Holy): to consecrate, sanctify, prepare, dedicate, be sanctified, be separate.

3) God designed having a break as a way to find physical, mental, and emotional refreshment.
Ex 31:17

Naphash(refreshed): to take breath, refresh oneself

2 Corinthians 5:11-15 New International Version (NIV)

The Ministry of Reconciliation

11 Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. 12 We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart. 13 If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Luke 6:27-36 New International Version (NIV)

Love for Enemies

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Philippians 2:3-8 New International Version (NIV)

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature[a] God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross!

Sent Out – ‘Luke: An Audience of One’ — Sermon Video

Luke 1:1-4 New International Version (NIV)

Introduction

Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled[a] among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

Pastor Lyndsay – Sermon Video

John 21:1-17 New International Version (NIV)

Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish

21 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee.[a] It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus[b]), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.

He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”

“No,” they answered.

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[c] When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.

10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

Jesus Reinstates Peter

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.

Moving Forward: God’s Great Plans For Us
103 – Serving In Humility Part 1
July 8th, 2018

Key Idea:

Serving people are humble people.

Two Measuring sticks:
Luke 17:7-8

1) Serving without limits

   Service is a lifestyle.

Doulos: A slave, bondman, man of servile condition.

Luke 17:9-10, Matthew 6:1-4

2) Serving without recognition

A contrast:

a) The proper religious leaders

b) The secret servant

Philippians 2:3-4, Galatians 5:13

From Sea To Sea
2 Cor 5:1-21, 2 Chron 7:13-15
July 1st, 2018

Central Question: How do we, as people of faith in Jesus, live in a nation that has moved away from God?

1) We have a future hope. (2 Cor 5:1-8)

2) Because of our hope, we become ambassadors of revival. (2 Cor 5:9-21)

3) Revival begins in the home with renewal (2 Chron 7:13-15)
a) A response by God’s people.
b) Pride is dethroned and God is made supreme King.
c) Out of humility, pray.
d) In prayer, confess your sin.
e) God forgives your sin and renews you.
f) Restoration, renewal, and revival comes to the land.
