Listening: Life at Sea With Jesus

Mark 4:35-41 New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Calms the Storm

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Daily Prayer Request – Tuesday, June 5, 2018

Pray for Good to Prevail over Evil. Pray for protection for our HMC church body from the attacks of the enemy. Help us be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves as we deal with spiritual forces around us. Show us how to test every spirit to see if it is from God. Help us recognize the enemy’s counterfeits and schemes so that he won’t outwit us.

Daily Prayer Request – Monday, June 4, 2018

Pray for our Young at Heart leaders and members. Pray that we would be wise enough to tap into their wisdom and that they would be encouraged to share. Pray that whether strong and active or increasingly frail, their lives would be a testimony of the faithfulness of God. Pray for the measureless honour that one of them would take up the challenge of praying by name for you on a regular basis. Pray that we would find ways to express our respect and our love to them.

A number of our congregation are experiencing health issues. Please pray for them, their families, and the health care professionals that are overseeing their care.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Mike & Michaelle Harloff on the birth of their second daughter, Mikayla Pearl, on Wednesday, May 23.

Congratulations to Pastor Amos & Faith Shelley on the birth of their third child, Mercy Lif (Leaf), born on Wednesday, May 30.

Daily Prayer Request – Friday, June 1, 2018

Pray for the courage to surrender our will to God for ourselves and for our church. We live in a very independent culture. Surrender, even to God, feels foreign to us.

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting. —Psalm 139: 23-24
